Title: Police are coming
Post by: Borlotti on November 04, 2010, 19:33:14
Just spoke to neighbours about Gabanna, that came in this morning for a snack, the cat that got run over, and asked her about Dulce, whether he had had his injections etc. etc. as I haven't got cat insurance.  Was told that I had stolen her cat.  Then boyfriend came to get Dulce back and threatened me with the police as I had stolen his cat, which cost £70, last year and I should keep my back door shut and not leave cat food down for my cat.  Well I am afraid I told him to call the police.  OH has now put poor Dulce in a cat carrier and taken him home but they are out and have left a telephone number.  Gabanna that got run over has been asleep all day with my next door neighbour, but has gone home now I hope and Dulce is very confused, it has taken a year since they wanted Dulce back and fireworks are going off tonight, so OH and me are having a row about shuting him out. Anyway, since I kicked the cat flap out, it doesn't work too well.  Now I am not allowed my back door open to have a smoke, or will be a cat thief.  I am sure the police will be round soon to arrest me, I am so guilty, I fed a cat.  Just back to have another row with OH, who says it is all my fault for inviting strange cats in.  Maybe I should give him £70 for Dulce, but what silly man gives two kittens called Dulce and Gabanna for a birthday present and then doesn't look after them.  Funny but the police haven't arrest me yet.

Don't let the so called 'cat owners' bully you...they should keep better care for their pets..and let them call police..you haven't done nothing criminal. If cats are allowed roam free from the property they are law to themselves. If you are in any doubt..give a call to RSPCA call centre and ask some advice. For start with these people have to be able to prove their ownership for the animals...and second is that you could report them for RSPCA about animal cruelty.
Try not to feel upset..same to OH..and check what advice is from RSPCA ;)..I'll be suprised if those 'owners' even bother with law..and if they do police will laugh them out of doors..they've got better things to do ;)
And what ever you do..DO NOT part with any money..if the cat don't like them for startwith and is happier with you..they might try to pull fast one and get their money back.

No police, yet, but OH has taken cat home in a carrier and they will keep it in, so goodbye cat.
Just wait until tomorrow morning when it?they will come back, but will have the water pistol ready, although she said don't wet my cat.  Charlie (my cat) is asleep on the bed and he won't go anywhere, he is too old.  Thanks Kev for bailing me out, funny but the cat police haven't arrived, or the leaf police yet,.  ;D ;D

No terrible twins so she is keeping them both in. Rang the RSPCA for advice and they said they had heard this story so many times before and I had every right to have my back door open and not to lock the cat flap.  It is obviously different if you keep a cat locked in.  Had to laugh as on November 5th about 6 pm, just as the fireworks had started, she came round to collect her cat as it had escaped out of her front door.  But it wasn't here, told her she could search the house but she believed me and seemed quite reasonable, and I said if it came in before I went out I would take it back in my cat carrier.  Have heard nothing since.  I am still very upset/annoyed as think it was quite unnecessary to threaten me with the police as I have told them where I live (my back garden backs onto theirs) and the cats were always on my shed or wall, so she could see them.  That cat has got me into trouble.  I expect it will all start again in the summer as she can't keep them in forever.  I will just have to stand ready with the hose and not even let them in the garden.

Hope you have got the bail money ready, Kev. Actually I may write the story myself, will they send in the SAS to search the house.  Poor Dulce has got an ASBO and I will get a criminal record, but as I used to work for the police and like them wish they would come and I would make them tea and cake.  And they(the neighbours) made me cut down my grape vine as it was going in their garden, think I will grow some poison ivy.  >:( >:( >:(

I would be livid if I found a neighbour had been feeding a cat of mine, but its hardly a crime, unless you snatch it from the garden and lock it in.

My basement flat neighbour coaxes all the local cats back to hers, she buys cat food for them and told me proudly she had three down there last week  ::)

I would just leave the cat flap open and if she comes in give her a cuddle.  If the neighbour comes looking for her just say that you will go and search in case she has sneaked in.  They can't demand that you lock your cat flap.  Perhaps it would be a good idea not to feed her though.

Well no cats for nearly a week now, so she must be keeping them in, which is a good thing as the weather here is dreadful, and not sure I could have shut Dulce out in this.  I have been on cat watch and the other night saw a furry object on the garden shed, and thought oh no, Dulce is back, but he seemed to have grown bigger and had a furry tail.  When I looked it was a fox (that is certainly not coming in the cat flap). Should have worn my new Specsaver glasses.  Well I suppose the argument has come to a good conclusion and she will now keep the cats in so they won't roam and hopefully Dulce won't get run over.  I dread the summer, think we will have to move, as I can't keep all the windows shut.  I will have to do my dance round the garden with the broom with the water pistol, and keep the vacuum cleaner running, but it is a clever cat and just laughs at me.  I should just have booted it to start with and it was saved a lot of trouble.  Did think of putting a small spade through their front door so Dulce could dig an escape tunnel, but as all is quiet will leave well alone, and next time either of them come, straight in the carrier and back home.

It's cruelty to keep a cat shut in, they should be free to roam. We've had several cats in recent years (we live in a cul-de-sac beside a main road), they've obviously been dumped. The last one was with us four 14 years then had to be put down by the Vet. Our present cat was given us by a chap who had out al day and the cat shut in. She was afraid to go out but after nearly twelve months she has now roamed around the garden but still spends most of her time inside.

I feel a letter coming on, I am not a thief, have not stolen your cat.  Perhaps we could set a free ground rules, if the cat sits on the wall, me-owing, shut him out, if he climbs through the window and rips my net curtains, send you the bill.  In the summer the windows will be open, give me your phone number I will ring you immediately to say your cat is here, or shut out asleep on my shed, greenhouse etc. Promise to take Charlie's (my cat's) food up all day and only leave it down at night, will not stay up all night to see if the cat flap is open or shut.  Otherwise if your cat comes in MY garden it will get a broom up his arse.  Then you can call the police.

Cats a renown for their lack of loyalty.

Nenni said the cat I am the cat that walks by itself and all places are alike to me.

If a cat tresspasses into your house and eats things I do not think that is a crime.  Threatening people certainly is.  Next time they come onto your property ask them politely to leave.  Send them an invoice of the food that has been eaten by their cat.

I certainly do not think you should be chasing cats around the place with a broom or a hose pipe or feeling guilty because of what their cat is doing.

Sweetie, you are trying too hard to be nice to your neighbour. You cannot change your life to suit her..keep your windows open, let your cat flap free , forget trying to shoo her away and of course put food down for your cat..anywhere on your property. If Dulce comes visisting so be it.You are doing nothing wrong, now if you you were going to your neighbours place cat napping things might be different. I would be exceedingky surprised if the police show up and on the freak chance that they do, what can they say, you are not responsible for what a neighbours cat does anymore than you are about the birds coming into your garden.

I would let Dulce be, let her do as she wants and let your neighbours twist themselves in knots if that is what they seem to want. They are being silly and just want to win a fight, I doubt that Dulce is still part of their arguement anymore. Don't play their game!! If you really wanted to tempt Dulcie to your house , it would be very easy and she would never go home.. well truthfully she probably thinks your home is hers now anyway.. give in and enjy each other.

Just carry on your life as you usually would do and give Dulce  a hug from me next time she visits.

Good Luck and be kinder to yourself

XX Jeannine

PS sorry for typhos, am working without glasses and can barely see..

Well said Jeannine!

Dulce's owners need to get a life and stop bothering a person who is kind enough to care what happens to their cat.

At last... some common sense... well said Jeannine.  YOU have the right to feed your cat and keep the cat flap open, when you like.  the police will not care about their complaint.  Honestly how much do you think the police will laugh if your neighbour complains that their cat has been coming through your cat flap???!!!  I agree, your neighbours are the unreasonable ones.  That said, do not purposely feed their cat and then there is nothing you are doing wrong.  Cats choose their own homes - ones where they are treated well.

On the rare occasions that lunatics threaten me with the police, I've found the best policy is to phone the police myself, in front of them, and ask for someone to attend.  The police will indeed come, especially if you say that you feel threatened, and will put the loonie firmly back in his box.

Well no terrible twins and no neighbour, apart from November 5th when she said Dulce had got out the front door.  Hope she found him and he certainly didn't come here, perhaps being stuck in the carrier when we took him home frightened him away. It is good that she is keeping Gabanna in, as he had the operation after getting run over, but surprised Dulce hasn't escaped for a quick visit or been allowed out in her garden.  Charlie (my cat) has been sitting on the back wall and looking for his friend, but nothing.  I can only hope that she hasn't got rid of Dulce and he is living a lovely life and that he hasn't got lost or been given away.  I do miss his visits, but it is not my cat and not my responsibility, although he had been round every morning and evening for about a year.  My other neighbour hasn't seen the cats either and they were often in her garden, or visiting her for a quick cuddle.  If we hadn't had the row, and her partner threatening me with the police I would ask her if Dulce was OK but better I keep well out of it.

I'll have to thank you for writing about your experience. We've got new neighbours with 3 cats and one of them took instant liking of us...I think we are going through adoption process from her behalf ::) Trying to avoid your situation as soon as I met out neighbours I told that I'm not trying to pinch her cat..it's just so friendly and likes to hang around our garden ;D Luckily our neighbour is understanding and didn't mine..she actually said that I could have her :o..but being allergic to cats I settle for passing strokes and odd cuddle. We do have little chat every morning though ::) Lady likes to sit on my dustbing and stare into house..so one have go and take rubbish away..move cat out of way and do the morning greetings rituals ;D

Had a dream last night about Dulce, he was trying to get in the upstairs window, and as I opened it I knocked him off and he fell down.  Then I woke up.  Funny but this morning I just glanced out the back window and saw a cat on the back wall, my daughter was here so said 'am I going mad or is that Dulce'.  She saw it but wasn't sure whether it was Gabanna or Dulce.  Went out in the back garden and there was Dulce sitting on the wall hidding behind the shed.  It was a lovely sunny day here this morning so he must have got out, or been allowed out.  I am so pleased he is OK and allowed out and not coming here anymore, so hopefully problem solved.  He must be a very clever cat and realises that if he comes here again, he will be put in the carrier and taken home.

Police, what are police?

If we see any in the village all we know is that they are lost.

Spoke too soon, went out for a ciggie and he is sitting outside my back door.  Too late to take him home tonight, so just clapped my hands and chased him off.
