Title: Shrubs
Post by: Poppy Mole on October 08, 2010, 16:26:21
I planted some shrubs last autumn in the hope of growing a hedge to hide next doors fence that I mustn't breathe on, they are growing quite nicely now but one or two shoots are getting very tall (not as tall as i eventually want them to be) should I trim them back to encourage more bushy growth & if so when? The are a mixture of Forsythia, Mock Orange,Bushy Honeysuckle & Flowering Currant.

I notice they are all flowering shrubs so you should have pruned/ trimmed them just after flowering.

To do it now you risk cutting off potential flowers,so I guess patience is order of the day unless you want to forfeit the flowers.

They never had any flowers this year, they've just shot up these long straggly bits
