....and I don't stand a chance this year!
I can't work out why I let this happen but I somehow managed to leave SIX pumpkins to develop on ONE plant! I'd estimate they are each around 60 pounds so nowhere near big enough.
My marrow (overgrown courgette which we allow because it's only a fun competition) is only average.
I'll post results on Sunday.

Oh, Betty ..... I happened to have a look on the website and you didn't win best kept plot this year either ;D
What happened?
Mind you, you supplied the winning pumpkin plant for whoever wins, which must make you feel somewhat better. ;D
Have a fun event!
PS: 6 x 60 pounders on ONE plant - good grief!
I will never win the best plot competition again - I'm much too untidy and apart from anything else, instead of gardening I spend quite a lot of time talking!
I picked all my SIX pumpkins today ready to take them to be weighed tomorrow
[attachment=1]
Only 3 will be weighed though because I've given the other 3 away.
Someone has grown a massive one and unless there are others which have been hidden, he is going to win. Photos tomorrow.
Thanks for the picture, they are beautiful. The ones on the right are so shiny - you didn't oil them?
And all this on one plant, can't get over it.

No, I didn't give them the baby oil treatment ;) just washed the dirt off for the photo.
It makes me wonder what would have happened if I'd removed all except one. :o
It's gonna be fun today
When I came for a visit there were quite a few hidden. So you never know what is going to suddenly appear. ;) ;) ;)
This is the winner - 233 pounds
[attachment=1]
It had to be cut in half to be weighed
[attachment=2]
My own weighed 63, 74 and 76 pounds. Only 100 pounds less than last year!
It took four men to pick it up
Wow what a whopper!! Congratulations to that man.
well done all of you its nice to get them to some scales at the end all the best mal
I've just realised that someone's made a face out of the two cut halves.
At least I think it's a face.......

Looks great! ;D
WOW :o
Is there a competition for smallest squash? I've got a 2 inch 2 3/4 oz one!
Absolutely brilliant. I have never seen such huge pumpkins. Quite amazing. Lovely allotments and great community.

I had the surprise of my life when Galina introduced herself yesterday. I have 'known' her for quite a few years now but we have never met before. It was such a shame that I was so busy collecting rents and dealing with new plotholders that I couldn't spend any time with her.
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit Galina, hope you will come back again when things are less hectic!
Tony and I met you although at the time we didn't know it. We were the ones who asked if you had entered your pumpkin and you said that you were only visiting.

So that was you Shirlton! :) Oh I wish. Largest I ever had was probably 30 odd pounds, but I have never grown any exhibition ones.
I was bowled over how friendly everybody was to a complete stranger, you and Tony, Teresinha and Mike, Dave, Betty of course and so many others that spoke to me. said hello, nodded or smiled.
The pumpkins were amazing and the allotments were almost all well tended and there were many interesting plants to see. I had a great time. Thanks for having me.
just caught up with this thread - well done all. But my question is how did you cut the pumpkin? I'm thinking maybe a saw?
10 and 66 ;)

It was quite easy 10 (and 66) :) The skin wasn't very hard and once the knife went in it was no problem cutting it into slices.

It's nearly all gone now.
thanks Squash, I would have thougt they were much tougher! Live and learn :)
