Title: Can anyone recommend waterproof footwear?
Post by: Squash64 on October 03, 2010, 17:03:52
Can anyone recommend waterproof shoes/boots/trainers which really are waterproof?  I don't find wellies at all comfortable so am really looking for something which is comfortable as well as waterproof.
I am sick of having wet feet.

I find Hunter wellies really comfortable. I like the mid calf type. I find full length wellies a pain in the A to get off ! I do have some walking boots but they do let the water in at times.
You could also look at rigger boots which are water proof but they have steel toe caps and can be quite heavy.
Duke:)

My Hunters are very comfortable but only for a couple of hours because I have a bunion. I got the RHS ones.

Thank you so much for that.  :)
I've just had a look at M and M and there are some Hunter clogs which look just the job.  I have a problem with my feet which means pulling wellies on is often painful so these should be perfect.
Thank you  :)

It might be too late to chip in anyway, if you've gone for the hunter clogs. But I wear my walking boots at the allotment when it's wet and I've been there in pouring rain (yes I am mad) and have never had wet feet.

The rest of me - soaked. But the feet: dry.  ::)

They lace up with those funny metal hooks, so fairly easy to get on and off. But not as easy as clogs, I should think.

Good luck with whatever you buy!

I use Lidl safety boots.  They have nice stiff soles so they are very good for digging.  I used a softer soled shoe one day and realised it was much more difficult.  Never had wet feet.  The steel toe caps are also another safety feature.

I have Millets workman's boots - like Digeroo says, great for digging - very safe (I sometimes oversee students on archaeological sites - believe me, some students are so cack-handed that without these boots I'd have no feet left by now).  They are also very waterproof - had mine eight years and still as good as my wellies (but more comfortable).  Plus, if you have to walk to the allotment they give you a good workout  ;D

Anything which says they are GORTEX will be waterproof.

Digeroo, what sizes do the Lidl boots come in? I'd love some steel-capped boots but have never found any in my size (3), I'd wear thick socks and 4s.....
