Title: Help - where have my emails gone?
Post by: Squash64 on September 24, 2010, 08:42:52
I use Outlook Express for my emails and I am very bad at deleting them.

Yesterday something strange happened - all my emails between June 07 and yesterday disappeared. As far as I know, I didn't do anything.

Does anyone know why this would happen, and have they gone for good?

Have you checked the deleted items folder Squash?

I havent used OExpress for a good while but it has always been a bit prone to corruption.  The most common problem (aside from malware) is that the mail store compression goes tits-up if it gets interupted...OE will try to compress the mail files and if you switch off or its interupted it can render the mail folder unusable...
First things first - check deleted items or any other folders you may have created.
Secondly  - do you backup your PC?
Thirdly - there is a tool for extracting mails from a corrupt mail store - see this page for info and a link to the file..

You might have an automatic archiving system in place - is there an archive folder anywhere?

Unfortunately (or fortunately!) OE doesnt have autoarchive like the full Outlook

Sorry forgot link in last post http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

Thank you both for your replies (only just seen them)
It's more complicated than I thought  :o
I'll have a look at it in the morning, my brain works slightly better then.  :)
