This year I transplanted 2 crowns and both survived.

What I did was in Autumn mark where the crowns are by placing a small cane at its centre before the fonds die back, otherwise you won't be able to find them.

I carefully dug up the crowns in Spring at the same time that Wilkinsons were selling them, they were just starting to send up the sprears.

I then carefully re-planted them to the same depth, both came up a little later than the new crowns, so must have received a shock.

Hope this helps, I might have been just lucky but I seem to have got away with it

I've moved a bed of asparagus, they were in their third season I think, I did it about this time and only the two weakest crowns didn't make it, in my experience asparagus is very tough and forgiving. I took the opportunity to tease out all the couch at the same time - wish I'd managed to do the same for the shamrock... :(
