I had the pleasure of attending the NVS show at Harrogate yesterday and took quite a few pictures.
I have decided to split them into three sections as there were three competitions going on at the same time and they were;
The NVS members show, The National Vegetable championships (The Open) and the Heaviest Onion
I hope you like what I saw;
This is the NVS show;
The NVS stand;

Sooperdooper all!
But it's hard to beat Medwyn?
Thanks Tee Gee. I do enjoy your photography sessions.
Thank you for posting those. I can't easily get to shows like that and it's wonderful to see what can be done. Is that rhubarb chard in the first picture, flanking the cauliflowers?
Stunning, thanks for sharing these pictures :)
Oh..they do look good..those 2 pot leeks...perfect!
I had a chance to taste some cedrico toms..and unfortunately they look better than they taste.. ::)
Wow - lovely photos of amazing show veg!!
Thanks for posting.
Alison
These pictures are fab, very inspiring.
Thanks.
thanks for sharing teegee,mustve taken you ages to upload them
Something to aspire to...thanks Tee Gee.....
Never got into showing personally..none the less appreciate the time and effort involved....takes me all my time to get a half pound onion.... ;) cheers...
Our allotment secretary visited the show too.He said he was very impressed with it all but spent a fortune on seed.
I would love to be able to grow "show veg" but that will have to wait until i retire and have more time on my hands.It takes alot of time and dedication to produce wonderful looking stuff like that.
Ah TG I see you found my rejects stash. ;D ;D ;D
Hi TG I went on the friday aswell and to be honest i thought the pot leeks that came 2nd where better cos they had not been stripped down to much. It was a great day out and would reccomend anyone to go and most growers will talk to you.
It takes me all my time to grow veg to eat let alone for show. 8)
There are some mighty impressive specimens in that lot.
Must take so much time and effort to get the veg looking so pristine
Are they plastic? ;D ;D
They are incredible. Are they actually grown in soil or is there some kind of pristine potting mix?
Mind you for me the look is less important than the taste.
Yes, I have my doubts, I always find that the nobbliest, ugliest veg is often the tastiest. But I admire their dedication!

I didn't see them, but a neighbour who shows veg, and is qualified as a judge, swears about some judges. He says some of them get it wrong regularly,even at this level.

I agree I think they sometimes do get it wrong. I thought the 2nd placed set in the three blanched leeks were better, but then again; who am I to judge?
But thats not to take it away from the winners these were extremely good as well.
We went on Sunday and they still looked the same as the photos.
However, it's all very well looking good but it's the taste that we grow for. We're not sure how many of these prize specimen are produced organically and how many have sacrificed taste for looks.
Some nice pics....... ;)
But can you tell me how much it was to go into this show, as I find recently that prices for shows are rocketing up. ???
I went to Ragley Hall, Alcester a few weeks ago to the game fayre but would not pay the £27 per person to enter. :o
A couple of weeks ago I went to Malvern Horticultural show with my brother and the entrance fee for that was £16 each. >:(
Although these were highly priced the car parks were full to the brim.
Am I living in another world or are there lots of people with loads of money. I think its bloody rip off.
Does anyone agree with me, or am I being tight, as they say. :-\
It seems a lot of money just to walk around a show and look at lots of vegetables and a few sales pitches. ::)
these shows are vegetable porn, and some people will pay loads for that sort of stuff.
well actually as the rule is look but don't touch, they're really Vegetable Lap Dancing Shows............

That's a good way of expressing it. ;D ;D ;D So, do you think I would make a good porn star with my pair then. lol
if you can get the tassels to twirls round in opposite directions, you're there
