Title: Can Lady Di runner beans be successfully frozen?
Post by: shambasarfi on September 16, 2010, 14:43:08
Hiya,

My partner and I have been a bit lacklustre about growing anything this year, as everything seemed to curl up and die, but we're going to be all beaned out at the rate they are rippening.  I know about par-boiling beans, rapidly chilling them and then freezing them, but can you do this to Lady Di (the huge beans) successfully.  I also have Blue Lake, which says that they are suitable to freeze.

Yes they can.....no need to blanch either....I just wash, dry and trim them, put them in bags and in the freezer they go! ;D

Thanks Fork,

I'll do that.  The wind has blown the runner bean support over so we have quite a few misshapen beans as well.  Oh well, if they taste good, what does it matter.  :)

It's a matter of taste.  I don't like frozen runner beans; have tried every method and several varieties claimed to be suitable for freezing, but I just don't think they freeze well.

Other people disagree.  You'll only find out by having a go!
