and you could magically move any plant what would it be and why?
I am moving house on monday ( oh sooooooooo many boxes ::)) and the garden is just grass and big big trees. Trees will have to go but what do i plant? :)
My Leycesteria formosa- grown from a 2L plant about 5 years ago, now10ft tall but easily cut back, I love it!
When I moved house 8 years ago, I dug up or took cuttings of nearly all the plants I had. We had to buy a trailer to transport the 300 odd pots I brought with me. Was a lot of hard work but saved me so much dosh and I can still remember where I originally bought them from. Like you I just had an expanse of (what had been field)grass and some trees and nowt else. Was lovely starting from scratch with a blank canvas, but would do so many things very differently now.
In answer to your question I would just buy some big pots and fill with bulbs for the spring. You wont be doing much with the garden when you move in and the pots will give you a lovely lift in the spring (you can then plant the bulbs in the borders when you have decided where they are going) As to my favourite plant .........well can you have a favourite child ???

A rose with "a history": my parents were dating prior to WWII and dad gave mom a bouquet of roses.
Her mom got one stem to root. From that came one fragrant pink rose bush and mom rooted one for me from it.
"Mom's Valentine Rose" we call it.
Ok just about survived the move. I am glad it wasnt just me that took lots of pots with me. OH moaned but it had taken me ten years to make the last garden and i didn't want to start from scratch all over again.

Sometimes it is nice to have a clean slate and start a fresh garden without all the mistakes of that old garden and leaves you free to make new mistakes of your own ;D
My favourite plant is my philadelphus belle etoile and my bay tree, and perhaps the discovery apple tree. I also love crab apple - malus profusion. Though it is getting a bit lanky now so moving would be a good excuse for a smaller one. And perenial sweet pea. Grows through an apple lovely.

I'd take my blueberry bushes in their pots, but not much elase from the borders- I like the idea of starting afresh!
A tough choice between the quince and the fig - both are well established and produce well!
The £10 note tree would definitely get moved

I am answering from some time ago due to the overseas move.. it would have to be without doubt the three roses bought for our wedding anniversary..called Love,Honour and Cherish..and sadly we had to leave them behind anyway. XX Jeannine
