It looks like being a bumper harvest this year. But the trees do grow large. This one was here when we moved in in 1993 and is still growing.

Lucky you :) ... the only walnut I know of (that crops) that isn't on private land gets visited by the squirrels long before the nuts are ready for picking, all they leave are a few husks under the tree.
I live at 'walnut tree cottage' and as you can guess we have a whacking great walnut tree. It is a very good harvest this year. Last year was good as well but unfortunatly i was slack in picking them up and the wet weather got to mine. Lesson learnt as soon as they drop i wil be out there.
Every year at Christmas my famity get a bag of walnuts as we have so many lol.
How old does a walnut tree have to be before it fruits/nuts ;-)))
or does it need a mate, or grafting..... qahtan
Sorry - i am not really sure - we inherited our tree when we bought the house.

Oh, seems as though we have a long wait,,,,, our tree actually came out of a friends hanging basket where the squirrels had planted it.. Hilda had 2 great big trees but I can't ask her as she past aay some years ago.....
do you just have one tree or does it have a mate.... qahtan
Nope just the one tree - so i guess that answers that question - it doesn't need a mate! :)

I remember ready the other day, it takes about 7 years before they start to fruit.

We planted a sapling about five or six years ago and last year we got our first nuts - five of them :) . This summer I noticed the few small green nuts we had were falling from the tree, so I picked them all and pickled them. There was enough to fill an eight ounce jar.
