Hi all,
I'm taking my daughter to london for a couple of days this weekend, and i would like someone to explain to me how the underground tube works/runs, and how much it costs. :-[
We will be staying at the Hilton London Metropole hotel, 225 Edgware road, which is near hyde park, but quite a way away from London eye.
So you see i've not used underground before, so some advice/help would be nice. :-* :)
Type in Google search, tfl, transport for london, that will tell you all you need to know on how to get around London.
The underground works with electricity ;) and a one day travel or oyster card is the way forward or so I am told, I've lived here all my life and my missus who's from oop north knows her way round London better than me. :-[ ;D ;D ;D
Heres the page you need:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/default.aspx (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/default.aspx)
Get hold of a tourist/visitor map, the hotel might have some. That will show you the nearest tube stations to the places you want to get to. More than one tube line goes through most stations so you need to find the right line. On the tube map and in the stations the lines are colour coded. Once youve got the right line you need to make sure you go in the right direction - east or westbound on some line, north or southbound on others. You buy your ticket or card near the entrance and swipe the card or put the ticket in the machine at the barrier. The tfl website should help you decide what kind of ticket to get depending on how long youre staying etc. The tubes are hot noisy and can get very crowded at certain times of the day but theyre the fastest way to get around. If you want to see a bit more of London take a few bus rides on the top deck.
The closest tube station to the Metropole is Edgware Road for district, circle and bakerloo lines. A circle line train will take you to Embankment for the London Eye.
Enjoy your weekend
Can't see a multi quote option on here so,
@ sinbad7, thanks but i only got 2 days so only need tube info.
@ kornykev lol,,,,,,, and,,,,, oyster card sounds good ill look into that.
@ weequinie thanks you're answer is one reason i asked, because i know there is a circle line, but there is also others which i may not need/want, and i don't want to spend most of my weekend sorting out how the tube works.
@ SMP1704, thanks for the nearest answer i was looking for, but, the station at the embankment is ?
ps, hope i ain't put anyone off with my response, just saying it as i see it.
I think the station is called "Embankment". ;D
The station is Embankment but it is on the north side of the Thames. Once out of the station on the south/river side you'd need to walk over the bridge to the London Eye/South Bank.
Take the Bakerloo (brown) line southbound (towards Elephant and Castle) from Edgeware Road and get off at Waterloo. The Eye is a bout a 5 minute walk from the tube - follow the signs in the station for South Bank and you cant miss it.
Thanks to you all, i'm sure i will find my way around now i've made notes. :) :) :)
What time of night do the tubes stop running ?, if they do.
The last trains are around midnight, it will be different on each line. If you think youll be late check the last train time on the timetables in the stations. They start up again around 0530.
Edgware Road closes at 1130. Which weekend are you planning on coming to London? There are quite a few planned engineering works over the next few weekends.
This weekend.

I'm so tempted weequinie but 30 quid for my 13 year old daughter, who may not even like it is a lot.
Asked my 13 year old daughter, she said, "who is neil sedaka and terry wogan".
Kids lol.
Got home about 10 tonight.
Now need to re-mortgage my home to pay for a couple of days in london.
Done the london dungeons, Thames cruise and the science museums 3d imax cinema.
Every time i put my hand in my pocket i had no change from a tenner, ouch.
£4 for a larger ? no wonder i saw no drunks in the streets at those prices.
Had a great time , thanks for advice offered.
I'm glad i live in weston-s-mare, feel so much safer crossing the road here.
If you are on the road when the green man turns red they love to beep horns at you.
