Thought I would test the waters here, has anyone studied Reiki or does Reiki themselves?

Would love to hear from you :)

one of our eco-warriors on the allotment does something like that. Not sure it's reiki, as that looks a bit complicated  ;) What do I know? - I thought reiki was something an Oriental person used to get rid of leaves
I always liked the sound of "Rolfing" as a relaxation therapy. Don't ask me what it is - saw it in a strange shop window

reiki is more the alignment of the bodies energy fields and rolfing is more the physical nature of body alignment. even the cynic i know enjoyed a reiki session but haven't yet met anyone who has experienced rolfing.

I learned something at a nursing seminar that may be similar called Therapeutic Touch, a misnomer because you don't actually touch the patient as you flick away the "energy field" from their bodies. I felt the whole thing was a bunch of .....
After performing it on numerous people with complaints of one type or another my feeling was it is relaxing for them because someone is paying a lot of attention to them and their ills which perhaps relieves some stress mentally that way.

But I think it is similar to hypnosis in its repetitive nature which helps people focus elsewhere. I used it in some emergency situations to relax the injured person until the ambulance arrived. When one ambulance attendant arrived he asked what I'd given the patient who appeared to be asleep. Actually it was more like a hypnotic state he was in, nice and relaxed instead of in chest pain. He came to on command fortunately ;D.

Another case I used it on was a screaming child who was brought to the ER with the tip of her finger cut off. She became calm as I "stroked" her head and talked to her and the doctor was able to numb the finger and sew it up. When her parents were allowed back in the room they asked what we'd given her. Again, I think it was like hypnosis because the child woke up when I asked her to and immediately began crying again.  Weird stuff, but it is all in the mind I do believe.
