Title: POL chickens and time of year.
Post by: Sparkly on August 29, 2010, 19:51:24
Today I bought my 5 chickens. They are 15 weeks old. As I understand they should start laying between 18 and 20 weeks old, but will the time of year light levels affect this?

Our daughter bought some POL chickens last September & I think they first laid in November.

Thanks Ant is convinced that he read somewhere that, because of the time of year, they might not start laying for ages.

I think it depends what type of chickens they are.  I believe many pure breeds will stop laying over the winter.  However modern hybrids should continue to lay, albeit rather less than in the spring/summer.
