I have just planted some Nantes Frubund (fast crop) from Thompson and Morgan, says 'unique spring harvest carrot' sow February to October. Harvest April to October.  Don't hold out much hope as my carrots are usually rubbish, buy them from Morrisons, the carrots not the seed.  Worth a try, will let you know next year, if I remember where I planted them.

I sowed some very late last year and in the spring got a small crop of rather hairy carrots, went into some soup.  I do not like bare soil in the winter so at least they covered the area.  Perhaps in a cloche.  But they were Nantes.

Why do carrots go hairy? every so often I get a really hairy one. Why is that? Have always wondered.

I thought it was after it rains heavily or the soils overly wet - normally they rely on their long tap root for water, but then when it's very wet they develop lots of little hairy ones to drink  nearer the surface.

Isn't that it?  Seems to coincide with my experience.
