Title: Tesco Cabbage
Post by: Bugloss2009 on August 23, 2010, 13:53:05
had to buy a cabbage from Tesco's and when I took the cellophane off, some whitefly flew out. I can't ever remember finding any bugs in veg from the supermarket before (apart from a water beetle in some bagged watercress)

Not complaining. Just an observation  :)

Mine - which I have grown "sucessfully" for the first time are netted but they are covered in holes and look very unappealing.  I won't grow brussel sprouts for the same reason - how silly I am - but I doubt I will eat any of my cabbages unless I take off loads and loads until I see perfect unholy leaves!

Sometimes I know they are "treated with insecticide" or whatever I will buy them as they are bug and slug free - I am a complete wuus!

O B ::)

Don't tell Tesco.

They will charge you for the meat

I now have hover flies on my cabbages eating the white fly.  Problem with the debris netting is that the white fly can get it but their predators can't.

Is is nice to know that Tesco cabbages are not smothered in insecticides.

I worked on the customer service desk at Morrison's, I had an elderly gentleman come to the desk with a cellophane wrapped cauliflower containing one lone greenfly. He played hell with me as if it was my fault. Wanted his money back etc. I just could not help myself when I said "Oh dear it must has missed the pesticide spray. I will give you your money back" His face was a picture.
