Title: Giant Red Onions anyone ?
Post by: vegmandan on August 15, 2010, 23:24:52
Just grown my biggest red onions ever.
4lb 2oz.
Just for a laugh I only planted them in 20 litre pots of compost and they went bonkers.

wow very impressive !!

I'm very jealous.... I've ordered some Aislae seed for next year, I'll have a 20x10 greenhouse and a 14x6 polytunnel... the polytunnels job until some peppers and chillis get planted in it in May is to grow big onions, and I'll prolly have a few in the GH..... My aim is to grow a 4lb onion....

can I get some hints and tips on compost, fertilizer and watering regimes?.... I'll try to sort out some extra lighting but I'd like to use solar/wind powered LED stuff and organic fertilizer etc... (know, "you old hippy!")

Amazing, never seen anything like it. Will you eat them as well? (I assume you're showing them somewhere?) Tell us how you get on!
