Post by: Ninnyscrops. on August 03, 2010, 21:35:00
Thank you Duchess, picture as promised.

They tasted lovely this evening. I'll let some go to seed to pass amongst my allotment friends.

Hi Ninnysssssssss

I am so glad they worked for you. I got them from originally from Tulipa and gave you some of my saved ones. I am sure Tulipa got them from someone on here too so these beans have a history.
Your sunflowers did well for me too and I took a picture with my mobile phone and still haven't put the photos on the computer yet. ::) ::) I will get there eventually ;D

Well a big thank you from me to Tulipa too and down the line.

Glad the sunflowers did well, mine are high up too now, one or two have gone over but the birds will be thankful soon.  :)

I got some from a supplier and they make a nice tasting stringless fat bean.

But they seem kind of odd that they only grow to full length as the seed forms - whereas other beans get longer (making them good as slim snapbeans) then slow down and just get fatter as the seeds form.

Is this normal?

Cheers.

I's not unusual in varieties that were grown for the bean for drying (as CToT was)...There's no reason to try and breed it to be a good snap bean,

I got mine from real seeds and have been saving the seed from the first year. I did send individuals some seed and also put some in the seed swap last year. We like to pick them when they are a bit thinner than a pencil  and no bigger

Gosh, that's amazing, thank you for taking the time to trace them Jeannine. When I, hopefully, save some seed I'll have to write the lineage on the packet, who know's where they'll turn up in years to come.  :)
