Ok, not ALL Scottish residents but hopefully any that live near or around the Linlithgow area.
My husband and I will be staying there at the beginning of September and I wondered if anybody knew of some nice places to visit? I've googled and got the obvious, well publicised attractions but I was hoping for some insider info on some little hidden treasures, LOL!
We like to do pretty much all sorts on our breaks but we're not party animals, hahaha! We like walking (well, that's an exaggeration on my part...) boat trips, history, mooching in little local shops (and cafes!) bird watching, sightseeing, etc etc
Any pointers would be most welcome, thank you :)
For starters you have the palace then there are trips on the canal.
Then you are within an hours travel of Edinburgh,Glasgow & Stirling so if history is your forte you couldn't be more central.
If you require a bit of retail therapy the same cities will oblige.
As for walking you have the Ochil hills.
All in all I think you have selected a very good centre point!
Then of course there is the scenery along the route to those cities!
All you need now is a bit if decent weather, and that I am afraid I can't help you with!

Scotland for holidays! Kinell, whats wrong with the sunny sarf coast or even friendly little islands nearby.
Train from Linlithgow to Falkirk High Station then a mile or so walk along the canal tow path to the Falkirk Wheel.
Beecraigs and Muiravonside Country Parks - Beecraigs has a GO-APE adventure thing!

Actually, this was supposed to be a break covering our wedding anniversary in October but my husband found out after we'd booked it that two important work trips to the USA & Cyprus were also going to be in October, so we brought it forward to the only remaining dates they had left available. Saved him having to spend three out of four weeks away in one month! :o
Ace, we've already been down Sarf (the IoW actually, LOL) so are opting for the other end this time ;)

All of the above Sam, but there is also a nice little village on the banks of the Forth - Culross. which is not far from Linlithgow - worth a visit.

which for your information Culross is pronounced coo-ross and it is on the other side of the river from Linthithgow,meaning you would have to go across the river at Kincardine,unless you want to take the long way round and cross over the Forth road bridge and see the rail bridge along side it.
