Ours are also frustratingly close.  Though they are going to be quite small this year but the tree is covered in them.

Do you cut out the bugs from the windfalls before juicing?  I bought a juicing machine but I have found that the amount you get in the end is hardly worth all the mess and effort.  Do you have a whole fruit juicer?

I am frying them in a little butter and then add a little apple juice and serve with the meat course.

Hi, Digeroo, yes, we cut out the core, manky bits and freeze, after 3 days, take them out and juice, we have a small stainless steel press, much more juice from frozen  ;D

What is best to get juice...a juicer or a fruit press?   I have taken on a new allotment with a great apple tree but they are early apple which i am told won't store....my DD loves apple juice and i was planning on freezing the juice to put in her school lunch box each day...but i am confused about the juicers and fruit press's....which gives apple juice like the juice you buy at the shops, ie clear juice?

A press.  With a juicer the juice is very cloudy and foamy.  Presses are prohibitively expensive in this country.  They cost around a third in France and elsewhere on the continent, in case you get the chance to look there for one.

The juice from a press is clear or only very slightly cloudy.  I also freeze cleaned apples, then juice.
