Opened up the last butternut from last year's crop this evening just to check it out for tomorrow night's supper.

I clean any mud off, just with a damp cloth, let them dry for a day and then put them in a vegetable rack in the understairs cupboard.  The butternuts stored better than a couple of other varieties I'd saved.

There are more correct ways of storing them and to have one last this long was pure luck on my part, I think.

Aaahhhh, the old cupboard under the stairs! Mine did ok for me on the window sills last year, but nowhere near as long as you have managed. Going to try some in the shed and the cupboard under the stairs this year  :)

I  lost a lot to frost in the garage so I would be rather wary about the shed.

I've got a spare Winter duvet that I'll wrap them in ;).
