Should I pick them tomorrow, trouble is don't like them very much. :( :(
make some cordial, lovely diluted ;D
Well, I'm not sure what sort of advice you need ;D - but if you want to know whether it's the correct time for harvesting, it's when they're soft as well as dark coloured.
This year's my first harvest of blackcurrants, and I made the mistake of picking a few too early - they looked dark, but they were firm, and INCREDIBLY sour!
I think they're gorgeous heated just enough to squish them, then added to ice cream or thick yoghurt.
Could that tempt you? :)
Don't you like blackcurrant jam Borlotti? Or freeze them for now and decide later. :)
Ohh I think blackcurrant jam is the best! The taste is very intense.
Also because of wrigglers in some raspberries, I've been soaking and opening up all my raspberries, which doesn't do much for their appearance! So I've taken to mashing them up with a bit of sugar and pouring that into lollypop molds, then in the freezer. That is really tasty.
Maybe blackcurrant lollies?
(I have a feeling all of this is still no good for someone who doesn't like blackcurrants!) ;D
Mix blackcurrents squished up and yogurt and freeze in lolly molds. ;D
Oh now that does sound nice!
Twoflower you've talked me into that one. :P ;D ;D ;D
I made 10 pound blackcurrant jelly last week from our crop this year,
gorgeous............ qahtan
We don't eat much jam, have still some left from last year. Redcurrants in the freezer, picked 3 lbs of blackcurrants today. Can I make them into lollies, don't really fancy picking them all of the stacks. Feel sorry for the Ribena people, if someone has to pick them, but I suppose they have a machine. Don't like Ribena much. The bushes were on the site when I took it on, so don't want to waste them. I just love raspberries and strawberries, can't get enough of them. Just got back from a long session of watering.
If you make lollies or jam or other squashed verson of blackcurrants, you could strain the stalks out. I wouldn't worry about it.
But it sounds like there are a lot of them for someone who doesn't really like them!
Offer them on freecycle to anyone who will collect?
You could offer a 'pick your own' session for people on your lottie site who don't have any black currants? They could 'pay' you with some fruit or veggies which they have an abundance of and you don't??
I`m not a great fan of blackcurrants to eat but it makes beautiful
wine
