Post by: fi on July 17, 2010, 22:56:43
grew asparagus from seed this year for first time, packet stated that germination would be sporadic but from 18 seeds 17 germinated. not sure what to do now. advice please, they are in tiny pots should i replant in larger pots and cold frame over winter or repot and plant out in the autumn.

Don'ty worry about a cold frame, i sowed 90 odd seeds last year, got 75 plants, 68 survived last winter in 3" pots..... they';[re now quite happy in 8" pots, I'll plant them out next year.....they really are tough as old boots as long as they don't percieve what you are doing to them as "disturbance"...... I'd get them up into something bigger if you can see roots at the bottom of the pot though
