Title: Bay Tree
Post by: gto2210 on July 15, 2010, 10:03:36
Any one know where to get a good (cheap) bay tree?
We need one for the leaf to use in cooking, not one of these fancy patio ones!!
So any bushy shape will do, we have looked all over the web, but they are all patio types.......  >:(

In local nurseries I have often seen small bay trees for sale, not expensive, basically rooted cuttings that you can grow on into whatever shape you like. Are there no nurseries near you? They grow quite quickly once they settle in.

I got one I rooted from a tree my mother had.  Just put the cuttings under a plastic bottles and waited.  If you let them go they soon get quite big.  Do you know someone who has a bay bush.

Wow, that's enormous, I had in mind about 30cm for £3 or £4 - glad you're pleased.

One of the things I mean to do is take lots of cuttings from my bay trees (which started as small cuttings), grow them on, and sell them on charity stalls I contribute to, but I haven't got round to it yet.
