hello all wondering if someone can help Where my potatoes have finished flowering there looks like there are baby toms there do I leave them or do I take them off is there any reason why they do this?????? hoping someone can answer many thanks
That is potato seed, lucky you. Most folk don't use it but it is becoming very popular.
Rather than explain here, look on the net about how to save and grow it, keep the green pod things, they are full of tiny seeds, they will be very hard, let them soften up and you will be able to get the seed out, there are a few ways of doing it which is why I suggested the net, then use the system you feel you like best. It is called TPS by the way, stands for True Potato Seed.
I have just got some planted this last week
What type are your spuds? If they are Charlottes I might be swimming the Atlantic by morning LOL
If you don't want to bother trying to extract and grow the seed there will be other people who might like them, so don't chuck them out!! Not all potatoes produce it.

They are the reason I remove my flowers.....so I dont get loads of those things laying around....they are very poisonous by the way.
get your swimming gear on Jeannine because they are charlottes they are absolutley delish thanks for the link I will look on there later lorraine
Ok, now you have to realise that Charlottes are my favourite potato, one that I cannot get here.. I harvested some the other day because a dear friend mailed me a few seed potatoes over, but no seed fruit on mine this year..so please, pretty please if you are not going to use them I would so much like them, either way don't take them off until you have to,let them grow al long as possible. Please have a read and if not your thing could I swap something for them, jut as they are, I can process them...but if you have a go with them good luck.
