I went to pick some mongetout today. I noticed that a few had a silver tinge and tiny little orange things that are moving.......what kind of pest is this and is it causing the silver tinge on it?
Any advice welcome please
red spider mite??
Thanks but it definately doesn't look like red spider mite. They are orange and approx 1 mm in length and they move slowly.
orange aphids :-\
I don't think it's an orange aphid as they don't seem to have wings or legs. Had another look today...they are only approx 1mm long and they wiggle. The peas they are on seem to be on are deformed and have silver over the pods. They are on my mangetout and my climbing peas.
Any ideas?
Harlequin Ladybird pupae are orange they later go on to develop legs.

You really are all brilliant!...this is definately what i have. On reading up on pea thrips, they are common in hot dry summers which is what we have at the moment. There doesn't seem to be a cure either so i'll just have to hope they don't get my whole crop of peas
thrips have decimated both of my shelling pea patches, but haven't noticed the mangetouts yet. Let's hope that continues!
