Title: Site Downtime
Post by: Admin aka Dan on December 08, 2004, 13:07:57
All,

Please note that due to moving of the website to a new host, there will be some downtime over the next few days.  When I've a more accurate time frame I'll let you know.

Hopefully this will be kept to a minimum, and not cause to many problems.

The address of the site will not change, and you should not notice any difference when it returns.

Any questions, please ask.

Cheers

Dan

Tim,

I last changed host about 8 months ago, changed then as the previous host was becoming very unreliable.

I am only changing now as the host I use (who I am very pleased with) are stopping hosting services !

It should only take me a couple of hours, but may take a couple of days to feed through the internet.

Cheers

Dan

I thought we were moving to a new host? Still looks like Yabb SE the old host to me.  I was under the impression that they were stopping webhosting?

I have to say though ive had a few problems with a4all since the 'move'. last night the site wouldnt load properly (even after clearing my browser cache), and still seems slow to load today. Sorry!  :-[

PS half the 'buttons' ie Reply, Modify, delete etc are not visible either. They are still there, just not appearing on the screen.

Richard,

YaBBSE is the board software, not the host.  The previous hosts were, lewismedia - who informed me about 2 weeks ago that the are stopping hosting services tomorrow !

We are now hosted with lypha, who will hopefully provide a good long lasting service.

I'll have a look and see if I can spot anything that would have stopped you ising the site last night.

Cheers

Dan

Thanks Dan for clearing that up. I got confused between Hosting and Software.

Still having a few problems at my end. Use of A4all isnt as smooth as it was before (not at present at least).

We too keep getting error messages, saying that the site has insufficient memory due to a bug in the operating system, theirs not mine. Did give an error number, 37 and 35 I think.

It was a database error on the host.

I am trying to sort out what went on to stop it happening again.

Sorry for the lost sunday night :(

Aha Eric, Eileen emailed me as she seems to be getting similar memory type errors as you were getting.  Ava has given her some tips, so all being well she will be back soon.

Me, not a problem at all, everything hunky dorey so I am a happy chappette.

Thanks Dan!  Hope you get to have some 'down time' over Christmas and relax!  ;D

I am exploring other options in case our new hosts do not improve.

Richard, try doing a CTRL F5 and see if you get the button, otherwise right click where the button should be, and select show picture.

Cheers

Dan

Control + F5 doesnt work on AOL and the 'show picture' thing brings up (occasionaly) a 'red cross' box. Sorry. Thanks anyway.

Fortunately when I put the cursor over where the buttons should be i do get a little 'tool tips' label telling me what the buton does.

Not good at all, very slow, freezing, error messages, perhaps it's the newness and will improve with age. I have been trying to get this message on for ages.

YUp, in...out...in...out...shaking it all over the place...and now I can get in.  Phew!  Mind you, in your absence I did manage to get all of those computer chores that I am forever putting off done.  Maybe if you could restrict it to once a week, it would help with my housekeeping.  ;) ;D  Hope it's not driving you to drink Dan.  :P

Does not take much to drive me to drink  :P

Mind, cudboard is running dry - must stock up for christmas.

I'm taking steps to improve performance - all will become clear very soon ....

Things a lot better now all thanks to our Dan  :)

The forums are still a bit slow at times (on some topics but not others) - but perhaps thats because they're so popular  ;D
