I grew Blue Hopi last year (I think you got the seed form me in fact), some plants were green, some very variegated, didn't seem to affect them..... the cobs only go blue when they're ripe, up till that point they're creamy-white.....

Yes..Chrisc..from you..oh..great, that's exactly what mine are like..I wasn't sure wether they all should have that variegation or not..so they have very rogue genes then ;)...bit like me.. ::)
Anyway..they are growing strongly as you can see...first lot are just reaching top of the barrel height..and second  half way there.. ;D Can't wait ... ;D

My Painted Mountain corn is still going strong (once the cats stopped digging it all up)

I think the secret for my success this year has been liquid seaweed..well success so far ::)..haven't have any actual cobs yet ::)
Friend of mine gave me gallon of agricultural seaweed that is 3 times more consentrated than commercial ones..and cause I've got plenty of it now I've been sloshing away with my watering cans..all my water but have had seaweed added..sometimes quite 'heavy' handedly too ;)

well here is samples of some of my crop..blue hopi and popcorn..
I'm quite pleased how they turned up..but we did have those awful winds when pollination was on so some of the cobs are not filled up properly.
Seville did well..but those are long gone..and they were very nice indeed.. ;D

Would seaweed from the beach do?

Oh..I'm sure it will..but you will have to get it 'in' quite soon...so it will have time to get 'digested' over winter..I wish I would have access to the stuff..

I haven't tried any yet...I only took first Hopi's off today..and the popcorn have to dry out before use.
I've eaten one Hopi when still immature..and it was sweet and soft enough..but it is classified as 'flour' maize so I'm not sure if it make decent 'eater'.
I was going to dry all ..save some for seed and try to do some sort of rough cornmeal out of it..maybe for cornbread or something..

;D...talking from the experience..? ;D..I shall try that..and start drinking beer too ;D Any particular brand/type you recommend to go with roasted corn?..dry roasted or with drop of oil?..just on pan?
I did try to pop some of the left over seed to see if they pop..and as they didn't...I still muched through them and yes they were nice...thank you for reminding me... ;D

I tend to wipe the tray over with a tiny bit of butter on a kitchen roll, there doesn't want to be pools of it by any means.... trying to remember how long I used to roast for.... it was hot but short, I remember that....

At this time of year I tend to stray to the stronger end of the ales, Marston's Old Empire is very nice, though not really hoppy enough for a true IPA, at least the strength is nearly what it should be . Things brewed to be Imperial Stouts too, might not be quite chilly enouygh for them yet but I love them...
