Title: Jenny Kiwi
Post by: tricia on June 29, 2010, 13:17:33
There are quite a lot of tiny fruit on my Jenny Kiwi plant. They don't seem to be growing much though. Can anyone tell me if they are normal size for the time of year please?

Oh..well done you... ;D...I should say so..kiwis are supposed to be late summer autumn crop so there is quite some time to go yet..
Are you aware that Jenny kiwis are smaller than the fruit you see in shops..?
I don't think your kiwis will change much size in this weather.. ::)..but to help things to move along...you could do sneaky 'swelling up operation'.. ;)...which may help... ::)
Mix 2 or 3 buckets full of water with tomato fertilizer...only half strength though..and if you have any liquid seaweed..even if the tom fertilizer has it in already..put a bit of that in too..and give those buckets of water in the evening so it can really soak in and repeat it few days later....and again week later..
Your plant will need lot of moisture now for not only to keep itself going, but to put new growth on and grow and ripen the fruit as well..now that is a quite a big job for it...little pampering will do good.. ;)

Are these the kiwi that grow to the size of large grapes?

If so I have one a couple of years old and have no fruit :( just lots of healthy green leaves.

Thanks Anja - glad to hear they are doing okay - they are being cossetted like babies - getting a tomato fertiliser feed once a week and since they are in a large container, getting watered every evening too. As they mature, will they get a fuzzy skin do you know? As of now they are shiny green dices.

btw seeds are on their way.
