Its that time of year, strawberries coming from everywhere so I must make some jam ;D
I have some 1 lb jars I can find the new seals for on line, stupidly, I bought some 1/2 lb jars from the range late last year, they don't sell the new seals and I can't find them on line..any ideas, please :)
what are you after standard jam pot covers or lids or have you got a special type of jar.
Lakeland plastics do jam pot covers and jam pot lids. if that helps
sorry, brownowl, these are the kilner-type jar, I need the new rubber seals for the smaller ones :)
thanks, anyway
Manics - a guy called Chris Adams from this website has apparently been manufacturing kilner rubber seals for all types of kilner jars for 10-15 years. Try giving him a call. http://www.adamsironmongers.co.uk/
Are they kilner as in screwtop or le parfait clip type? If theyre the clip type John Lewis sell their own make in all sizes.
thanks, brownowl, if all else fails, I'll give them a ring ;D
they're the spring clip ones, weequeenie..I'll have a look on the John Lewis site, thank you :)
I know I am hijacking this thread but does anyone know where I can get kilner metal clip jars that are smaller than 0.5 litres?
I found one supplier but for one jar costing £2.28 they charge £5.00 p&p!!!!! :o

John Lewis does one which is 380ml. I dont work for them.
What's all this about seals for Jam Jars. If you use the right ingredients and do the cooking right, the jam will last a couple of years unsealed. But you must use 50/50 fruit and sugar and the sugar must be cane sugar. The cooking must be done to a proper "skinning" level. I made greengage jam 3 years ago and was still using it last year, no mould or breakdown to liquid.
Thanks weequinie:) its just so happens that I like John Lewis :)
Larkshall I think the main point raised here is if you already have the clip type kilner jars you will need the appropriate rubber seals for that type of jar. If you dont have the rubber seals you cant use the jar!
Duke :)
Jam does need to be sealed in some way to stop bacteria, moulds etc entering the jar. Whether you use new ordinary jars with new lids, old jars with old lids, kilner type jars or whatever, they must be airtight. No matter how well you make the jam, no matter how high the sugar and acidity content is, if dodgy organisms get in they WILL eventually taint the jam.
I have used this company for new jars, their service was good and although I don't use kilner type jars I know they stock them:

thank you, jennym..they're the ones ;D
Another supplier is - jamjarshop.com. They have a huge supply of all jam making requirements. I ordered some jars after 11:00 on Tuesday night and they were delivered on Thursday I don't have andy excuses now for not making more jam!

Must say, I found jamjarshop prices to be about 75% higher than the prices I pay, do shop around, and also check delivery charges.
