Post by: sweetsaphie on June 16, 2010, 12:06:38
i could cry , i was pulling the dead parts of one of my palms  and goodness the full palm halfed in two, it is quite a good size is it possible to mend it , the old next door neighbour years ago patched his together with tape and it fused together and lived,  do you think it is possible  in my case

sadly, not very hopeful. Palms only have the one growing tip in the centre of the crown and if this is damaged, it is unlikely to be restored. Even so, ever the optimist, you will have to try. Bind it together with micropore surgical tape - not electrical tape or anything non-porous. I have mended broken stems in this way but it really would be miraculous if the palm survived. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news. I have also lost a huge 10 year old canariensis which succumbed to some fungal infection last year and this winter finished it off.
