Hi All,
New to the board and also new to food growing so please forgive any daft questions I ask!
I bought some Seed potatoes last year from that dodgy place called eBay... :o :-\
They were supposed to be ready in time for Christmas. Well the kids and I planted them etc etc and nothing....not even a green shoot through the soil!
Well, we left them in, in the hope that something may come of them, when in fact days turned to weeks and then weeks turned to months....lazy I know, but kind of flattened our keeness to fail so easily!
Anyway, over the last week or two, in the place where we left them, green potato plants have appeared! They are a very lush green and standing around 12 inches high with plenty of leaves....is it a good idea to leave these to grow and possibly harvest some potatoes out of there or are we best to remove them asap?
They are in a seperate bed to all our other recently planted goodies!
Kind regards,
Jason.
If you remove them then you won't get crop out of those..I don't see why not to harvest them..if they are not on your way and seem be happy..let them.. ;)
To get christmas potatoes..they have to be cold stored to during summer to trick them to think that is winter..and when planted in autumn, they think is spring so they start their growth..
But to get them mature to crop for Christmas..well they do need protection from cold ..so polytunnel or greenhouse helps..
So let them be and enjoy your spuds... ;)
Awesome! Thankyou very much!
