Title: Is it too late for Sprouts
Post by: BillyButternut on June 11, 2010, 13:26:25
Hi all
We had all our young sprout plants stolen from our allotment plot last night :'( and I am just wondering whether it's too late to sow any more.
our seeds are Nelson f1 and on the packet it says sow March to April
Thanks in advance

me being me,i would have to try it,if worst comes to worst all youve lost is a few seeds.failing that, has anyone at your plot got any spares? or even try your local nursery for plug plants.
more to the point, who on earth is going round stealing plants? any ideas? have you told your committee? good luck and i hope you are soon eating little green bundles of yumminess x

Head says yes it is too late, heart says "give it a whirl".  I noticed the local fruit and veg shop was selling local excess produce wrapped in paper, and one of the labels I clocked was Dozen Sprouts - variety unspecified.

B&Q still had Sprout plug plants when I checked last week.

Have you checked seed company website such as Dobies,  T&M, Mr Fothergill?  They may have some plants left.

If the plants were small, could it have been pigeons?

Delfland plants do 8 sprout plants of 4 varieties, £5.50 inc P&P. Bought from them before & very good quality.

Could be pigeons; have you any other brassicas you haven't netted? There must be lots of places selling sprout plants right now; that's what I'd do.

I hope it's not too late, two of my three seedlings have just died off (I can only think I burnt them with BFB). So I've put three seeds into pots and will plant out when ready and see what I get.
