Title: When do blue tits leave the nesting box?
Post by: grawrc on June 07, 2010, 21:55:24
I have a wee problem at the moment. The next thing in my ongoing plot renovation is the removal of my old battered shed to someone else's plot (who doesn't have a shed.). Unfortunately I am delighted that a blue tit family has taken up residence in the nesting box on the shed. Like Ninny and Columbus I get to listen to the babies calling out (and no doubt soon falling out) and I'm thrilled to bits to have them. However !!! One of the reasons I want to move my shed is that a rabbit family has taken up residence underneath it and while they are very cute they are not nearly so welcome. So my question is - when can I safely take down the nesting box (for transfer to my other shed) and how will I know that the blue tit family has moved on?

You'll just have to keep a watch on the parents Grawrc, once the chicks are out they pop back once or twice just to check there's nobody home. I'd give it two days after they've gone and quickly move it.
