Title: courgettes disappearing Help!
Post by: compo49 on June 07, 2010, 20:47:49
I planted two courgette plants on Friday at the lotti but when i went to day something has devoured one and had a go at the other one. any one know whats attacking them ? ( no sign of slug or snail trails)

I have had no problems with them being eaten in the last three years!

I'd still suspect slugs, re-sow and this time place a drink bottle cloche over them for a few weeks to protect them along with some slug pellets that will cover both slugs and rabbits etc.

I agree with Stevens706 some slugs live in the soil & squash will always lure them out. I tend to plant my squash through black membrane with slug pellets underneath it, surround the stems with grit/egg shells etc & also cover with plastic bottle cloches until they are established
