Title: It`s rained
Post by: cleo on June 06, 2010, 12:56:37
Oh joy-a thunderstorm last night and the first `proper` rain for ages.  And another storm brewing as I type.

My soil was getting the look of a dust bowl

We have just had a heavy down pour here in mirfield west yorkshire so hopefully the lotti and veg plants have got the water they badly need .

Next weeks forecast is more rain for here so will not need to go up and water them but saying that i have some more veg plants that need  to go in.

Still no rain in Glasgow!! I suspect that we have not had more than one third of our normal rain since mid December.

big soakings here but still need to water since all my crops are protected by big umbrellas (leaves). Was doing it last night under a brolly, with my hose and sunhat on - only realised that it looked a bit wierd when a couple of cars went round the allotment twice and I definately saw the telltale flash of a camera.

It managed to fill my brand new 210 litre water butt this morning. Knew I should have put two in  ::)

Would have filled it up on Friday if we hadn't been hopeless and left it with the tap open!

At least I won't need to drain it for a couple of weeks looking at the forecast.

Broad beans twice the size they were on Friday...then got home and it's rained again for 10 mins. Weeds will be so much easier to remove tomorrow. ;D

Despite our local weather map being totally blue all afternoon it's been just enough to be annoying but not enough to do any good  :(

Sigh, I found both my large blue butts and my bins full late last night, so I panicked, I lost a lot of water due to their fullness, but, I got lucky and asked the council for some old broken green wheelie bins again, I went and got them today, so I now have 3 more to fill up..... Oh such joy.

Yes it has rained here in Nantes these past two days, quite steady showers and a couple of good downpours so I won't have to water this week! Not sure about filling up the waterbarrels though... should go and check and maybe move some water from one to the other.
