Title: Cooked Cucumber - - HELP
Post by: DawnF on June 03, 2010, 07:37:08
Hi,
I have just planted 2 established cucumber plants into a large square plastic pot . They were lovingly put inside my plastic greenhouse as advised by a friend ( they love it warm + humid - they will grow like mad ! - he said ).
I left the door half open till I came home last nigt - -  :o only to find they were overdone - wilted..... ???
What have I done wrong ?? All the other bits in therre seem fine.

Your advise is greatly needed

are they dead dead or just wilted? personally my cucumbers (outdoor types) have not been in the greenhouse during the day for a few weeks now they do still sometimes look a bit wilted at the end of the day but after a good water at night i find they've picked up.

well i found that last year my cucumbers loved the morning sun, didnt like the midday sun and loved the evening sun again!

this year i'll be setting up a shade to cover them during the hottest part of the day (unless we have a washout summer again then theres really no point!)

It may come down to how they were planted in the soil or on top of the soil, if you have buried the stem then it may be stem rot which is one of the main causes for killing cucumbers especially if you are watering directly onto it and not around the edges of the pot
