Title: main crop spuds in bud
Post by: aquilegia on May 30, 2010, 14:32:15
My maincrops potatoes (desiree, planted at beginning of April) are in bud. So does that mean the tubers are swelling? Do they need extra feed and water? Do they normally flower this early?

My charlottes (planted at the same time) are not in bud. Do they flower?

early flowers on a main-drop potato are usually sign of stress. have you had sufficient rain lately? (about 15 - 25 mm per week)

They definitely haven't had a lot of rain. Until today! It rained a bit on saturday. More drizzle than anything substantial. Today it has rained a lot. And of course I gave them a really good water last night! Hopefully it'll all help anyway!
