Can I compost dock leaves and their roots, or just their leaves or not at all?
Julie
I have always composted the lot. :)
Thanks Betula
:)
I put it all in. Sometimes they're still alice when I empty the bin, but it doesn't take a moment to pick them out and return them to the oubliette.
I put leaves, roots but NOT seeds in the compost.
If I've missed them and they've managed to seed they go into hot fat with bird seed to make fat balls. Then everyone's happy {bar the seeds}

I would only compost the leaves and bin or burn the root as it will probably grow again
Hmmmmmmm, not sure what to do - whilst I want to try composting the lot I don't want to have to weed the compost heap.
Thanks for everyone's advice.

Dock roots are very persistant. I remember seeing a TV programme where someone said they had nailed one to a door for a year and it still grew when put back into the soil.
i've put all my bad weeds in a seperate composter - just a black bin with a lid and a closed floor.
I'll leave them in there till winter filling it up and then i'll attend to it either burning or drowning them.
we compost or drown the leaves and drown the roots and water our plants with the water ;D
