Hi, I thought it may be because of no rain, but I've been watering my summer wok brock psb and it's just been wilting and not thriving.
So, gave up and pulled them today - no wonder they weren't growing, there were no roots at all !?!?! ???
Does anyone know why that may be??

not sure if it is a bit early in the year but is there any little white grubs in the soil?if there is it might be the cabbage root fly to blame! this happened to some I grew on in pots once, I removed the grubs and some recovered as they were not too badly affected

Spooky...this has happened to 3 of my cauliflowers i planted a few weeks ago. I dug them up expecting to see the grubs of cabbage root fly but i found nothing but the roots weren't there
I didn't see any grubs...
I do have some more - and also some rudolph psb and some cauli. to plant out on the plot - Oh dear, I hope they'll be ok.

PS - on further investigation it does look like we've had an attack of cabbage root fly!!! Typical - we had all the protection against cabbage white butterflys!!
Lolol if one thing doesn't get you, something else will! We live and learn :)
Hi Alamo,
I think that you have overwatered them, they need to dry out somewhat so that the roots grow down looking for water,
They do not need to spread their roots in very wet compost, hence no root system, just let them dry out and you will find the roots will fill the pot in no time.

I don't water and managed to resist during the dry spell that lasted weeks. My carrots didn't germinate but my parsnips did (I did water those) and everything else has thrived. I like to grown them hard and let them find their own water - it works for me and I am not on clay by any means - in fact, it generally rubbish calcereous soil.
Hi Queenbee,
I don't think so - they were doing fine then one started to wilt, and just upped and died. I replaced it with another healthy plant. Another couple started to wilt, we start :)ed to water them then.
All of the plants wilted and died - we pulled them up and have used the space for courgettes.
I'll have to plant out the other summer sprouting and rudolph in other areas when I have space.
I'll certainly think about watering tho..... one less job would be great!! ;)
