Title: Top Ten Gardens in Bloom to visit (UK)
Post by: SamLouise on May 28, 2010, 16:08:43
How about that?  I've gone a bit fuzzy headed and can't think where to put this so I'll stick it in here!

The UK's best public gardens (according to VisitBritain, not me!) just in case anybody feels like a day out in the nice weather :)

Edit:  Just paid a quick visit to the VisitBritain website and here's a link to 'Garden Itineraries' for England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland :)  http://www.visitbritain.co.uk/things-to-see-and-do/itineraries/gardens/index.aspx

I have visited three of the ones listed namely Heligan,Kew & Tatton and loved them but Wisley is my favourite with Tatton a close second.

For those that want an insight in to what is on offer at these gardens have a look at these slide shows; http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Indexes/Gallery..htm (http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Indexes/Gallery..htm)

Like Tee Gee I have also visited three of the gardens mentioned;  Kew, the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Bodnant.

Wisley, which is not one of the ten mentioned, is my favourite too.  I was very disappointed with Kew having visited Wisley the day before.

I could think of dozens of gardens that have far more beauty than the National Botanic Gardens of Wales.

I always find that I love visiting the yellow book gardens far more than the public ones.
You a nosey at other peoples gardens , get to meet the gardener, have nice cake and tea and perhaps take a bargain home with you to.

Last year I took my dad to a dahliaholics garden in denton - hes a lonely dahliaholic and doesnt have anyone locally. We were there hours!, the display was pretty brilliant and it was only a small garden but he'd built up his beds so they were higher at the back so you were in a bowl of flowering towering dahlias.

Must find a copy for this year!
x sunloving (my avatar is now a dahlia called hogmanay, jeannie can look again now the teeth have gone)

Sunloving, there is an online Yellow Book- just google NGS. You can also ususally get your local one free from tourist info etc. (ignore me if you know all this already!)
