Title: How cold is too cold to plant out squash?
Post by: kippers garden on May 28, 2010, 07:06:08
A quick question as i'm trying to decide whether to plant out my pumpkins/ butternut squash etc....

How cold is too cold to plant out squash?

My plants are fully hardened off at home but sheltered from winds near my house.  I notice on the BBC website that the temp will be 6C on Sunday night....should i wait to plant them at my allotment?

Thank you for any advice given.

I've planted 3 outside so far, but I've covered them with fleece 'cages'. I've got loads more that are ready to go out, but I won't have enough fleece, or time, to cover them all so I will wait another week at least before I put them out.

So long as yours are growing well in their pots I don't think it will harm them to wait a bit longer.

I was told many years ago to try and keep courgettes and especially BNS above 7 degrees so mine is also still fleeced up when there is a cooler night forecast.
