I've not grown kidney beans as such, but had grown quite a few beans for drying and storing for stews etc.  They grow exactly the same as "ordinary" climbing beans, you harvet some young like normal, but leave lots to go to maturity and dry out on the plant, then pod, dry and store.  I have borlotti & canneloni beans from dadnlad & I think Ruud & have had great success.  They go in chicken stews and chilli's and I know you can make your own baked beans in tomato sauce instead of buying in tins, but where else would I get my illicit salt and sugar from?

Not sure if that answers your question really.

Cheers

Kidney beans are a type of bean much as any other [pinto, borlotti etc].

The ones usually called kidney beans are Canadian Wonder - as shown on my blog http://linearlegume.blogspot.com/search/label/Canadian%20Wonder

I grow loads of these and the Canadian Wonder are dwarf beans, but you could pretty much save any Climbing or Dwarf bean, and leave them on the plant to dry and use those as kidney beans, in chilis etc.

The original chili beans are Pinto though, used in Mexican dishes including refried beans......these are also dwarf beans. My favourite!!!

We grew Canadian Wonder last year for the firtst time, and they are perfect in chillis.  This year we're growing them again, but more this time so we won't have to buy any.  They are dwarf plants.

I grow both runner beans (tall kidney beans) 2 double rows
also Dwarf Kidney beans (canadian wonder) 4 double rows. The dwarf beans I uasually harvest 3-4 weeks before the runners are ready, Once the Runners are ready to pick I leave the dwarf beans rune to seed and save the seed for sowing next year and some for stews etc

In this part of S E Wales we have always called climbing beans Kidney beans whereas these are called Runner beans in many places. They are not to be confused with climbing French beans.
