Allotments 4 All

Anyone recommend a book on the basics of starting off an allotment?  ???
I thought I'd pop into our local library and pick one up while I am waiting for my lottie, :'(
I have a beginners book but it's a bit old and recommends lots of illegal chemicals. :o
