Title: pea and bean succession
Post by: aquilegia on May 24, 2010, 13:51:54
I sowed dwarf peas and french beans about a month ago. I've put the peas out, but am keeping the beans in a bit longer.

When should I sow more for succession? And when's the latest I can sow them?

Now, we have our second beans, and third peas in to germinate now. I'd sow until the start of July with French beans and mid June with peas, but as I grow climbers you could do dwarf ones for a couple of weeks later than that...  :)

After a while things seem to get a bit hot for peas  But I sow my last lot of runner beans in early July and they crop well in sept/oct until the frost gets to them, the earlier sown ones usually have black sooty stuff on the leaves by that time and have given up producing beans.

I sowed a crop of dwarf beans when I took out the onions last year and they did very well, managed to cloche them up and had them well into November.

Things are very dry here so the next lot of peas will go in the next time it rains.
