Title: volunteer brassica
Post by: aquilegia on May 18, 2010, 10:56:36
I've got some kind of a brassica growing in my veg bed. I have no idea which. Is there any way of telling before it starts producing whatever it's going to produce?

I'm not sure how it got there as I didn't grow any last year and according to the old girl next door, no one's gardened our garden for 30 years. Unless it was a broccoli seed from the kitchen waste in the compost?

I got loads the year before last, and left them in just to see.

None of them came to anything except for the turnips, but there were some interesting shapes in there...  :-[

Or some oil seed rape sown by a bird.  I have seen oil seed rape plants growing in gutters above the second floor of our bank, right in the middle of town.  Oil seed rape gets everywhere, but the leaves are edible, especially the young leaves.
