Title: Cougettes
Post by: Tatty on May 18, 2010, 10:22:39
Hi, I started my courgettes off too early so they are quite big. I have repotted them and they will be planted out at the end of may. However one has started producing a cougette! What should I do? Pick it off?

Unless they're Parthenon (or another one that doesn't need pollinating) or there's a boy flower around (fairly unlikely), it will die off anyway!

I was given a plant last week and have planted it out under a cloche, it is doing ok so far.....

Mine are still at the 2 leaf stage on my kitchen window sill, however what I am trying to say is that if you have enough try it outside, or at least start hardening it off now, can always replace it if it doesn't survive if you have others.

Nothing ventured! ;D

I have one that is growing in compost bin..underneath coldframe...so far so good..it is quite big but not flowering yet..so once I plant others out in couple of weeks time I should expect this early one being ready for first flowers..
Just leave it be...it will do courgette or not..

I have a Parthenon outdoors surrounded by fleece as guard against the wind - it has a small courgette about an inch long growing already - and I'm not going to cut it off! But then, my small walled garden is very sheltered - and I'm in the so-called warmer south-west too.
