Title: hardening off and night time temperature
Post by: aquilegia on May 17, 2010, 17:34:07
I'm starting to harden off my tender crops. What nighttime temperature is the lowest that they will live out comforatbly without protection?

I will leave it at least another week or two before putting them out so they have time to acclimatise.

I've got things like courgettes, squashes, french beans, sweetcorn, tomatoes, cucumber...

I try to keep mine at no lower than 40°F (8°C) and I avoid watering in the evening as this can cool the root system.

I find that if I keep them moderately dry the root temperature is around 5°F (1°-2°C) warmer than the surrounding air temperature!
