Title: Soffits and Facias
Post by: Mrs Ava on November 25, 2004, 22:57:08
We are getting quotes to get out soffits and facias replaced - never been done since the house was built in 1969 and are looking past it.  Any of you had this job done recently?  The first quote for our house is 3 and a half grand.  The house will be fully scaffolded, is detached and they have to use extra scaffold over the conservatory.  So, anyone have any expereince??

Hi,
About 18 months ago we were looking to getting our soffits etc. replaced (detached house but no conservatory) and had a quote from Anglia Windows for 4.5 thousand - I was expecting about 1,000 at most - so told saleman that it was far too much ....

So,  after dropping the price several times and still being told that it was far too much he phoned his boss to get an authorisation for a 'final' price  ;) - authorisation duly given and then immediately rejected by us - so a second final price was quoted - about 1,500 - we showed the saleman the door :) . Then I got all the bits from the web, hired a tower scaffold ... all for 700 squid (or so)  - but its a bugger to install!

-- hope this helps

We had our previous 1970s detached house done a couple of years ago.  We had 2 quotes around the £3000 mark but then found someone who did a really good job, without scaffolding, for £1200.

Hi Emma...when they did this house(10 years ago) the workmen used 2 ladders with those offset extenders, worked together. Also used a special step with a plank from one ladder to the next.Installed new guttering too. But I have seen quotes of £780 and £3000 for the same job, so shop around.
