My first strawberry is ripe. It is Cambridge Favourite and is in the greenhouse. It looks so nice that I don't want to eat it. ;)

Thats nothing,I had my first punnet of ripe strawberries on Saturday.....only trouble was they came all the way from Spain and ended up in my shopping trolley ;) ;D ;D
bet I know which has most taste! ;D
ya beat us by about a week, still white but starting to go ;D
Congratulations Squash. It looks good enough to eat ;D
Ah Squash your just showing off now... and I don't blame you, bet you eat it though.
I saw something on TV long ago that in some Japanese modern homes there is no garden so they grow bits on balconies, in the story they had the first ripe strawberry coming, they cossetted it daily and when big enough to pick they had a prayer/ceremony over it and carefully sliced it so that this special one fed four.
Really interesting, but I would have just stuck it in my gob before anybody else did!!
Well done
XX Jeannine
I have flowers, but then they are all outside as no greenhouse. So v.envious :'(
A "fruit day" today so finally going to sow the squash and cucs. And will keep my fingers crossed for a good crop of strawbs................in about 4-5 weeks.
Just done a clear out and found a jar of strawberry jam 2004. right at the back of the cupboard, very discoloured. Had to try it. Just tasted of nothing. It went in the bin.
Eat and enjoy fresh.....
Like Suzanne I too, am very envious as all mine are outside. I have two small plots, one is a first year strawb plot and I've already fed, watered and mulched with wood chippings, so no worries there.
But today I set to on my second year strawb plot which is flowering like mad and promising loads. So I weeded, Lord how I weeded. I watered, in spite of the rain, I mulched with home made compost, I put down slug pellets (bio-friendly of course), and finally I netted the whole lot against birds.
Now folks, short of cooking it a steak and kidney pudding, and making mpl to it (always works with the OH), I am sure there is simply nothing more I can do to ensure it lives up to its promise. If it doesn't, I'm off to see Squash!!!!
Regards, Caro
Squash youve got my mouth watering ;D
Mine are outside so got ages to wait, lots of flowers though. Its a 3rd year bed so hoping for good fruits before the plants retire ;)
lol carosanto, have you fleeced them to keep the frosts off tonight or is it warm where you are? Ive had to remove the net framework from mine for a few days & fleece them instead as its so cold bbbbrrrr!
No fleece, but then no frost either, as we are in the Wild West. Mark you, we get plenty of rain!!!!
(That's why I would love to be able to grow under glass in a HUGE greenhouse)
Regards, Caro

A friend has said he has bought wallpapering trays (for pre pasted stuff) and fixed them around his fence for strawbs this year, and he expects to be picking this week :o Where he found the warmth and ripening sunshine I really don't know. He only lives around the corner. ???

Not this year. Mine are flowering. 22 years ago today my parents in law brought me a little punnet of strawberries to the hospital where our daughter was born. Last year was the first year so far I managed ripe strawberries for her birthday, but alas, this spring has been too cold here.
~Enjoy! (mouth watering here .....)
Well done Squash!
I noticed one of mine in the polytunnel is just colouring but certainly not ready for picking just yet - probably a couple of days if we get the sun!
O B :D
