After nearly a year of researching and filling in forms and waiting - we've got it! A grant from the Big Lottery Fund to install a composting toilet at the site!
Over the past three years, we've got all the plots let - with a waiting list - and largely well cultivated; introduced proper signed Terms & Conditions; started regular plot inspections; opened up starter plots for new gardeners; established a regular newsletter; built a car park; re-vamped the water supply; re-inforced the fencing; made a start on up-grading the drainage; organised regular deliveries of bark & pallets; have a group from MIND working a plot; and arranged visits from local Primary schools.
When we asked the members what they wanted us to try to fund, a toilet was the greatest priority. We're going for a Kuzuba K2, with disabled access. Hopefully, it will be installed in the next few weeks. And we're planning a grand opening in July - which just happens to be the date of our centenary!!
Watch this space, folks, for updates and photos!
(As you can probably guess, I'm a bit over the moon....)
Congratulations on the funding. All that hard work has paid off for you all. You have every right to be completely over the moon ;D.
That's brilliant, well done, I know how much hard work goes into form filling..I do it ;D
we wanted a kazuba loo, we were told we needed planning permission for it and we have no access for their machinery, looking at a composting toilet now, we can build it ourselves :)
Wow! Standing ovation for you, Trevor.
*rapturous applause*
;D ;D ;D
Sounds like you should be doing guided tours of your site for the NGS.
Well, I'd gladly do the tour. ;D
great news :) :)
Well Done Trevor!! (and the rest of your committee) It's nice to hear some positive news from the world of allotments.
looking forward to seeing the installation / completed photo's (our association is looking into getting some of these installed, well, about 16 or so of them, actually)
Congratulations on being able to reap the rewards of your hard work. ;D
That's what I like to hear. Congratulations.
